Visual and muscle discrimination sense

The Montessori activities help children develop this sense as they will be experiencing different sizes, shapes, and dimensions of the materials. The visual and muscle discrimination sense’s activities in a Montessori classroom are as follows:

Knobbed Cylinders

There are usually four Knobbed Cylinders in a Montessori Sensorial classroom, all differentiating in size. Children will develop one to one correspondence, crossing the mid-line and pencil grip by doing this activity.

Pink Tower (presentation one)

With our observations, children love the Pink Tower and especially enjoy repeating activities with the tower. Children will be encouraged to build the Pink Tower from the biggest block to the smallest block, where there are 10 blocks all differentiating in size.

Pink Tower (presentation two)

This activity is a little bit different as the tower is now built from biggest to smallest but aligning the cubes at the back left-hand corner once stacking them.

Broad Stair

This is an activity where children grade the road stair from biggest to smallest. There are 10 wooden prisms differentiating in breadth and height but the same in colour and width.

Knobless Cylinders (presentation one)

There are four different Knobless Cylinder boxes, starting with the easiest box which is the Yellow Knobless Cylinder to the most difficult box which is the Blue Knobless Cylinder box. The order of presentation is as follows: Yellow, green, red, and blue. With this activity, you will only build the tower with the yellow, green, and red boxes, the blue box you cannot build a tower with as it varies only in height.

Knobless Cylinders (presentation two)

The children will learn how to grade from the biggest cylinder to the smallest cylinder using only the yellow, green and blue boxes. The red box you cannot grade as these cylinders vary only in diameter.

Red Rods

The child will learn to build a stair with the Red Rods from the shortest rod to the longest rod. There are 10 red rods, differentiating only in length, each rods measurement increases by 10 cm.
