The Chromatic Sense used in a Montessori Sensorial classroom

The Chromatic sense is all to do with colour. Children will first be introduced to primary colours, then secondary colours, and finally tertiary colours. We use the Montessori colour tablets to teach children various colours. The different activities using the Chromatic sense are:

Colour Box one (presentation one)

Children will learn how to match primary colours (red, yellow, and blue) in this activity. This activity is a wonderful introduction to the Chromatic sense.

Colour box

Colour Box one (presentation two)

This presentation is done by the directress doing a three-period lesson with the child to teach him the names of the primary colours.

Colour Box two (presentation one)

In this activity, children will be introduced to primary, secondary, and tertiary colours, and they will learn how to match the corresponding colour tablets.

Colour box 2

Colour Box two (presentation two)

A three-period lesson is done in this presentation. The child will be tested with one known colour, and two unknown colours.

Colour Box three (presentation one)

In this activity, the child is free to choose one set of seven shades of colours from Colour Box three. The child will learn how to grade from the darkest shade to the lightest shade.

Colour Box three (presentation two)

In this activity, children will learn how to grade all of the shades of colours from Colour Box three. This is a wonderful activity where children will need to sustain a high level of patience and concentration throughout the exercise.

The directress does a three-period lesson with the child, using one known and two unknown shades of colour from Colour Box three.
