Gustatory sense

It is very important to expose children to different tastes, as this is when people have the most taste buds. By the time we are older and reach 21, only 1/4 of our taste buds are left. By the age of 60, it has depleted further.

In Montessori, we have various activities that heighten the child’s sense of taste. For example:

Tasting bottles (presentation one)

For the first activity with the Montessori Tasting bottles, the child learns how to match the same tasting bottles. The directress will show the child how to hold the Gustatory tray carefully with two hands. There are two pairs of each taste in glass dropper bottles: sweet (sugar), bitter (coffee), sour (lemon), and salty (salt).

The second presentation is done in a three-period lesson. The directress teaches the child the names of each specific taste.
