How the first presentation with Colour Box One is presented

The directress begins by telling the child what they will be learning about, in this case, Colour Box one. She explains to the child what a colour tablet is and shows him the tablet and demonstrates how to hold the tablet correctly, with her thumb on the bottom white border and her index and middle fingers supporting the tablet at the top white border.

The directress takes out the first set of colour tablets: red, yellow, and blue, and places them vertically down the left-hand side of the mat; she ensures the white borders are touching one another.

The directress then takes out the second set of tablets and places them randomly on the right-hand side of the mat. She takes her time trying to find the corresponding red tablet to match to the first set. Once she finds it, she picks it up correctly like before and places it next to the left-hand side red tablet. The directress continues in this manner until she has successfully matched the blue and yellow colour tablets.

What does the child learn by doing the first presentation with Colour Box One?

The child becomes more familiar with the primary colours and promotes the child’s colour awareness. This activity prepares the child for the subsequent colour boxes, it promotes the child’s fine motor development and enhances the child’s concentration.
