Bring me game with the Large Number Cards

How is this activity presented to children?

This activity is just the same as the Bring me game with the Golden Beads. This one differs as the children will have to bring the written number card to the directress instead of the Golden Beads.

The directress with the assistance of the children begins by sorting all of the cards, starting with the units on the far right from 1 to 9, then the tens from 10 to 90, then the hundreds from 100 to 900, and finally the thousand 1000 on the far left of the mat.

The directress asks the children to bring her a certain amount of units. She then continues in the same manner with the tens, if she feels the children have grasped the concept, she may ask them for higher quantities, for example, 2 units, 4 tens, 3 hundreds. She asks the children to place the cards in the middle of the mat. The children then place down the number ‘342’.

The directress then says to the children: “we have 3 hundreds 4 tens and 2 units, which is the same as 342"

The directress can continue playing the game with the children as long as they have grasped the concept.

What do children learn by doing this activity?

This activity gives children practice in finding different amounts as well as it is a great test for the directress to see how much the child understands, this activity promotes the child’s Auditory perception and his Visual discrimination, and it gives children practice in handling the cards.
